Affiliate Disclosure

Best Host Picks is a reader-supported website. This page explains, in plain language, how we make money and what that means for the reviews and recommendations you read here.

The short version

Some of the links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one of those links and then buy a hosting plan, we may earn a commission from the provider. You never pay more because of it. The price you pay is exactly the same as it would be if you went to the provider directly, and in many cases our links carry a discount that is better than the public price.

Which companies do we have affiliate relationships with?

We currently earn commission from the following hosting providers:

  • hosting.com

We will keep this list updated as it changes. If a provider is not on this list, we earn nothing from mentioning them.

Does the commission change what we recommend?

This is the question that matters, so here is a direct answer: commission determines which companies we can be paid by, but it does not determine what we say about them.

In practice we hold to these rules:

  • We state the renewal price, not just the promotional price. Cheap introductory rates that triple on renewal are the single most common complaint in web hosting, and hiding that would make our reviews useless.
  • We publish the drawbacks. Every host has them. A review that lists only strengths is an advertisement, and we would rather you trusted us on the second purchase than clicked once on the first.
  • We do not accept payment for a specific ranking, rating or positive review. Commission rates do not influence position in our comparison tables.
  • Where we have not tested something ourselves, we say so rather than implying first-hand experience we do not have.

How affiliate links are marked

Affiliate links on this site carry the rel="sponsored nofollow" attribute, which is how Google asks publishers to declare paid links. Pages containing affiliate links also carry a visible disclosure near the top, so you are told before you click rather than after.

Advertising disclosure and the FTC

This disclosure is published in line with the United States Federal Trade Commission’s guidance on endorsements and testimonials (16 CFR Part 255), which requires that material connections between a publisher and the products it recommends be disclosed clearly and conspicuously. We aim to meet that standard everywhere on this site, not only on this page.
